Members of Textiles Partnership make demand on Bangladesh government

Members of the Textiles Partnership call on the Bangladeshi Government to ensure that the existing arrangements for the handover of the Bangladesh Accord are respected.

In a letter to the Bangladesh government, members of the Textiles Partnership and Accord, including Tchibo, ALDI SÜD and ALDI Nord, and Hugo Boss, call for compliance with and support for existing agreements to hand over the Bangladesh Accord to a national institution. The background was current developments and inconsistencies. The Accord regulates measures for building safety and fire protection in textile and clothing factories in Bangladesh.

In October last year, the Accord Transition Monitoring Committee (TMC) - consisting of the government, employers' association, trade unions participating in the Accord and brand and trading companies - agreed on objective criteria that must be met for the Accord to be handed over to a national institution. Whether these criteria are ultimately met is a matter for the TMC to decide.
