Organic Cotton Accelerator – sourcing pilots in India

Objective

The objective of the initiative is to build a more prosperous organic cotton supply chain. This will be done through joining sourcing pilots of brands and learning about how they could use their sourcing practices to improve the business case of farmers and other value chain players.

Short description

The activities to achieve the results and the objective of the initiative are as follows:

  • Brands will guarantee purchase of volume prior to cotton sowing season
  • Brands will ensure fair price to farmer (additional amount or % upon market price)
  • The pick up and payment will be done in a scheduled manner
  • Brands are committed to continue the work and learn from each other in the long-term and after first pilot year

Achievements

  • Increased fiber integrity to reduce GMO contamination
  • Improved cotton farmer business case to engage more farmers in the long-term
  • Improve supply chain transparency
