Accident insurance for workers in the textile and leather sectors in Bangladesh

Objective

The Ministry of Labour makes use of the developed draft bills, administrative structures and processes which build the foundation for the implementation of statutory accident inssurance.

Short description

The project includes three core elements:

  • improvement of the legal framework
  • political dialogue
  • strengthening of the administrative capacity

Achievements

  • Study trips to Malaysia and Thailand for more than 60 participants from the governement, private companies and their workforce have given the relevant stakeholders an understanding of the different approaches taken by regional accident inssurance systems.
  • In cooperation with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) a draft law proposition concerning the accident insurance in the textile and garment sector was presented.
  • The founding of an ‘alumni’ interest group that brings together Cabinet ministers, private companies and employees is fostering an active political and social dialogue in Bangladesh.
