The online course OECD Due Diligence for Garment and Footwear Supply Chains helps companies in the textile and footwear industry to understand the international expectations of responsible due diligence.

The course is suitable as a basic training for dealing with corporate due diligence and risks in the own supply chain. The structure and content are based on the OECD Due Diligence Guideline for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector. By this means, the course supports companies in implementing the Guideline in their business operations.

Content of the course:

    • OECD risk-based due diligence framework and supporting measures
    • Risks commonly found in the garment and footwear sector and supply chains
    • Practical risk mitigation actions companies can take to prevent and address risks in the supply chain

The OECD course Due Diligence for Garment and Footwear Supply Chains is self-paced. Learners can revisit the contents and chapters of this course as many times as they like.

The course includes short quizzes to assess the newly acquired knowledge. After completion of the course, learners will receive a certificate of completion.

Module 1: OECD sectoral guidance (ca. 30 minutes)

The first module of the course gives a brief introduction to the basics of risk-based due diligence. The specifics of the textile and footwear industry and specific risks in the supply chain are also addressed. Learners are introduced to the application of a risk-based approach to the supply chain. Examples from the industry and interviews with experts illustrate the explanations.

Module 2: OECD due diligence framework (ca. 90 minutes)

The second module deals with the six-stage due diligence framework. In the guideline, it forms Section 1: Core Due Diligence Guidance for the Garment and Footwear Sector.

The second module is divided into six fields of action:

  1. Embed responsible business conduct in company policy and management systems
  2. Identify risks and harms in the company's own operations
  3. Cease, prevent or mitigate harm
  4. Track
  5. Public communication with the affected stakeholders about relevant elements of the supply chain
  6. Initiate remedies
