The challenge

Promoting access to remedy and redress is a fundamental part of corporate due diligence. Workers in the textile supply chain must have the opportunity to draw attention to grievances in the workplace and receive effective remedy and redress if required. Access to remedy can make an important contribution to equal opportunities and the fight against discriminatory structures. However, this is currently not the norm in textile factories in the producing countries. In addition, employees often face negative consequences in the event of a grievance.

Our approach

There is currently a large number of different existing grievance mechanisms. In order to limit the range of mechanisms, members of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles are enabled to use the existing grievance mechanism of the Fair Wear Foundation. Part of the supplier factories receive onboarding sessions and training sessions on the introduction of the mechanism as part of the Partnership Initiative.

This Partnership Initiative is currently in a second phase. In order to strengthen the rights of workers even further, an accompanying project by FEMNET is taking place, which is an integral part of this second phase.

Our goals

The Partnership Initiative with Fair Wear has the objective of improving access to effective grievance mechanisms for workers in the textile supply chain of Partnership companies. At the same time, it contributes to the harmonisation of different approaches to grievance mechanisms and remediation. The measures aim to sustainably improve working conditions for workers in textile supply chains and reduce inequalities.

The objective of the accompanying project with FEMNET is to strengthen knowledge about the ecosystem of existing grievance mechanisms and to leverage the expertise of local organisations. Workers receive dedicated support in the grievance process. This accompanying measure is implemented by FEMNET and Cividep in India.

Goal:

The grievance machanism has been implemented in 26 factories
